Do you remember those commercials that used to be on television for Family Game Night?
They ran about 8 years ago and I always thought it was such a clever idea. These days, it’s even more necessary because so many parents are trying to get their kids away from electronics. Am I right?
I have always loved the idea of family game night. We used to play Sorry! with Caleb and Tyler all the time, at dinner time. Until someone spilled a drink over the board and it was fit for nothing but the garbage.
We replaced the game and discovered that they’ve changed the gameplay since the original game came out. We still play the old way though. And we never play with food on the table either.
A few posts ago, I mentioned how we played Monopoly with the boys. I was doing alright in the beginning, and Caleb was by himself at the beginning of the game and wasn’t doing well. Tyler came home from work and teamed up with Caleb, and the tables turned. Tyler and Caleb were in the lead. Until money became scarce.
Soon, the houses and hotels started making their way to the board, and with the exchange of money, the boys quickly went broke and my husband took us all down. I still remember the look on Tyler’s face as he wondered how it happened.
Lots of laughs, though!
With winter breathing down our necks, it’s important to find indoor activities to keep things fun and entertaining for the family. And if it pulls the kids away from electronics for a little while, even better!
Here are our favourite games for family game night:
- Snakes and Ladders (also known as Chutes and Ladders)
- Pay Day
- Connect Four
