Hi friends! In case you missed out, I shared this post a while ago: How to Have a Family Movie Night. This follow-up post is to give you some great ideas for your family movie night.
While coming up with this list, I tried to keep in mind that some little kids might be watching. As a family, we adore Multiplicity with Michael Keaton and Andie McDowell, but there are some inappropriate scenes, so it didn’t make the cut. My goal was to share good family fun, so have a look, and get started on planning your family movie night!
I’ve taken the liberty of linking up to these movies on IMDB. In case you haven’t heard of this website, it’s awesome for tracking your favourite movies, actors and upcoming releases. We often refer to this website when we think we recognize someone from a movie.
I also mixed new with old. Devin and I have always felt it was important to expose our kids to the movies we grew up with, and there hasn’t been a time when the kids haven’t enjoyed them!
- Flight of the Navigator
- Big Hero 6
- Stand By Me
- Night at the Museum
- Bedtime Stories
- Dr. Dolittle
- E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
- The Goonies
- Tooth Fairy
- Kindergarten Cop
- Rise of the Guardians
- Jack Frost
My family’s favourites on this list are Tooth Fairy (who can imagine The Rock in a role like this one?), Robots (we can recite this movie, word-for-word, and really, Robin Williams is good in every movie he’s in, the same goes with R.V.), and last, but not least, Jack Frost is absolutely epic.
Jack Frost is more of a Christmas movie, in my book. However, after we first bought this on DVD and watched it, Tyler was about 5 or 6 at the time. It was suddenly his absolute favourite movie. He watched it constantly!
E.T. is definitely a classic, if there ever was one. My parents took me to the drive-in to watch this when it came out. I definitely could see myself as Drew Barrymore, with her pigtails, and being close in age.
I will never forget watching Big Hero 6 with my family on one particular family movie night. Can’t give it away, but there is one very specific part of the movie where Caleb just exploded into a huge fit of laughter. We’re talking, deep belly laughs. We still laugh about it.
Do you agree with this list? What would you add?
