We’re heading into the third year of our son heading off to summer camp in Kingston. He was accepted over a month ago, and we knew the odds of him NOT being accepted to camp were slim, as he’s won Top Cadet for the past two year (maybe again this year, who knows?).
Year One – he was gone for two weeks. I was a complete wreck.
Year Two – he was gone for three weeks. It was a little better, but I still missed him.
This year, he will be gone for six weeks. EEK!
I compromised today and made our youngest son’s favourite dinner (Meatball Sub Bake – the recipe can be found here), and then I made our oldest son’s favourite dessert, chocolate trifle, something I’ve been making ever since he was about three years old.
This week, though, I realized that I make this trifle every year before his send-off!
What better way to send him off to camp than to make his tummy happy, and remind him of all the yummy things he’ll be missing out on while at camp (they do NOT make this at camp!). Eat your heart out, kid 🙂
You need four major ingredients for this trifle, but two things require you make them ahead of time:
I hope your family enjoys this as much as mine does!
