It’s been said that there are no straight lines in nature. Curves are everywhere. I urge you to try to find anything in nature with a perfectly straight line.
A few years ago, we had some friends over for an evening barbecue, and we were having a great time. The kids were winding down, playing outside with us in their pajamas.
We spent a long time talking and laughing and catching up. It was, and continues to be, one of my favourite summer activities. Enjoying the warmer weather but escaping the heat by eating outside later in the evening.
I remember the clouds were rolling in like a sheet. One half of the sky was completely clear, complete with stars, while the other half was nature’s wrath, complete with a lightning show and thunder.
Lightning is a very tricky thing to take a photo of, and I deeply appreciate photos I see that capture the curves so crisply, so stark, that it’s like you are witnessing it first-hand.
Amateurs often have a hard time capturing it at all, much less making the photo very clear.
The photo brings me back to feeling the stifling heat, which was soon replaced by a cold breeze. The wind picked up tremendously.
Airplanes flying over us were trying to stay away from the clouds, flying alongside the sheet of stormy weather, staying just ahead of it. Birds were flying, seemingly panicked to get back to wherever they go at night.
Despite all of this, not one single drop of rain fell on us, while we enjoyed the amazing light show. It was magnificent, and each flash of lightning arced and curved in different formations, as the light raced to the ground.
I have yet to see another storm like that one since, but I’m looking forward to trying my hand at more photos.
What curves inspire you?
